The purpose of this
forum is to provide peer support to women and girls aged 13 and over who have
experiences of rape, sexual assault, or sexual abuse. It is also open to friends and family members, including
males who are supporting a female survivor. Members are invited to join who are current or ex services
users. We believe that connecting
with other rape and sexual abuse survivors can be an important part of healing.

that everyone is at a unique place in the process of recovery. We want to encourage others to move

We celebrate diversity,
work from an anti-discriminatory perspective and acknowledge that women come from
many different backgrounds. We maintain confidentiality at all times. The only exception to this is when a
child or vulnerable adult is at risk or where a woman or girl indicates that
her life is in danger, or she may cause harm to herself or to someone else.
Our definition of
rape and sexual abuse is that they are crimes of violence and abuse of power –
not ‘sex when you don’t want it’. We recognise the limited options and choices that women entering
prostitution may have and the violation women experience while being
prostituted. We do not therefore,
define prostitution as ‘sex work’, or a woman’s choice but view it as being in
itself a form of sexual violence.
We refer to women
who have been raped or sexually abused as survivors or simply as women, as the
term ‘victim’ implies that a woman can be prone to attack. We recognise that abuse is not
perpetrated by ‘perverts’ or ‘maniacs’ but by sane people who have negative
attitudes toward women. We believe
what others tell us and work with towards an understanding that the abuse was
not their fault.
