TITLE: Advocacy Worker

SALARY: £27,033 - £29,445 plus 6% pension contributions (fixed term to March 2025)

HOURS: 35 hours a week (including evening work)

LEAVE ENTITLEMENT: 30 days p/a + 12 days public holidays

RESPONSIBLE TO: Justice and Community Services Team Leader

ABOUT THIS ROLE:

This is a key role in Glasgow and Clyde Rape Crisis Centre’s service that provides specific support and advocacy services in our justice and communities focused service. The overall aim of this post is to provide support and advocacy to survivors who are engaged, or considering engaging, with the criminal justice system following an experience of sexual violence. It is expected that the Advocacy Worker will have a strong commitment to anti discriminatory work and will be responsible to the Justice and Community Services Team Leader and Director for maintaining the working values, principles, objectives and policies of Glasgow and Clyde Rape Crisis as outlined in the organisation’s governing documents. A PVG check will be undertaken as part of the selection process. Only women need apply under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010.

APPLICATION PROCESS

· Closing date for application is noon on Friday 29th April.

· Applicants should submit a C.V. of new longer than 2 A4 pages, along with a Cover Letter outlining suitability and motivation for the role, also no longer than 2 A4 pages in length.

· Interviews will be held on 17th May 2022 at 30 Bell Street, Glasgow.

· Applicants will know by Friday 6th May, if they have been invited for interview.

· As part of the interview, applicants will be asked to prepare a presentation and take part in a role play scenario. The topic and focus of these will be shared with applicants invited to interview.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provide a support and advocacy service to survivors of sexual violence engaging, or considering engaging, with the criminal justice system following an experience of sexual violence.

2. Provide emotional and practical support to survivors of sexual violence whose cases do not proceed to court, including access to follow on services.

3. Develop and ensure the effective implementation of relevant referral processes to ensure survivors of sexual violence have enhanced access to support and advocacy services throughout their involvement in the criminal justice process.

4. Work in partnership with relevant agencies to enhance responses to survivors of sexual crimes, including where appropriate the development and delivery of training inputs.

5. Publicise the service offered through the advocacy service to enhance access to the service across voluntary and public sector agencies.

6. Contribute to the development of national policy and strategic work around the criminal justice system and sexual offences through attendance at national advocacy project meetings and provision of information and feedback to the Rape Crisis Scotland National Coordinator.

7. Contribute to monitoring and evaluation frameworks to evidence the impact of the advocacy service for survivors of sexual violence and for partner agencies; including production of statistical data and participation in any evaluations which may be commissioned.

8. Attend training as required.

9. Participate in regular support and supervision sessions.

10. Participate in team meetings.

11. Participate in centre wide meetings.

12. Any other duties that are relevant to the post and agreed with the Team Leader including contributing to the learning and development of staff and volunteers within the centre in relation to criminal justice processes.

13. Any other duties that are relevant to the post of support worker and agreed with the line manager.
